THE CITY FOLK CLUB'S COMIC RELIEF, CHILDREN IN NEED & OXJAM NIGHTS
The magnificent people of the City Folk Club have confounded our expectations once again. Their generous support in buying raffle tickets and Guess-the-Pudsey entries, donating raffle prizes, sponsoring requests, and cheerfully being fined, means that it has been possible to pay in £370 to help disadvantaged children in the UK. And we all had fun doing it! Congratulations on being the bestest, loveliest bunch ever - it's a privilege to know you. Thanks go to Colin and Jane for organising the raffle, the Pudsey thing and the requests, and to David for MC-ing, and, of course, to everyone who contributed fiscally and musically, both on the night and beforehand. Children in Need said, "Thank you - your donation will soon be helping those children who need your help". Well done, City Folk Club, once more, you've "made a difference".
We raised £145 for Comic Relief this year through our 'Have a Funny Turn' and 'Complete-the-Limerick competition' activities. In 2008, we few, we happy few, raised a magnificent £200 for the BBC Children in Need appeal, by asking for 'Pennies for Pudsey' (someone now has longer arms from carrying all that change!), a raffle (with a wide variety of prizes including a pink ukelele {more properly: a Portuguese/Madieran cavaquinho/braguinha} and a plastic singing Marilyn Monroe, which was as tasteful as you'd expect), and a donation from Club funds. Thanks to all those who helped on the night. Some folks couldn't attend, but made donations anyway, so thanks to you, too.
Hard on the heels of OXJAM, we raised £50 for Children in Need in 2007.
October the 5th 2007 was the special City Folk Club night we put together, connected to the OXJAM Music Festival, OXFAM’s initiative to Make Music – Raise Money – End Poverty.
What a magnificent achievement!! The twenty-five-or-so souls who gave so very generously raised an astounding £210 on the night. Over the next few weeks, strenuous efforts were made to include the sponsored requests that there wasn't time for on the 5th, so the final total (which includes a donation from club funds) was:
TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY POUNDS
Congratulations and thanks to all involved, for raising FIVE times the estimate.
